Bharti Walmart launches Training Centre in Aurangabad

  • Aims to create a network of retail-ready work force to bridge the existing skill gap in the industry
  • 2nd Bharti Walmart Training Centre to be launched in Maharashtra within past 1 month
  • Till date, seven existing Bharti Walmart Training Centres have trained over 10,800 youth
  • Over 4000 students campus-placed and hired by several leading companies in India

Aurangabad, 28 May 2012: Bharti Walmart, a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Walmart, for wholesale cash-and-carry and back-end supply chain management operations in India, today launched Bharti Walmart Training Centre at Aurangabad, Maharashtra, in a Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the Government of Maharashtra. The centre will provide free-of-cost training to people and equip them with requisite skills sets, to bridge existing gap, for cash-and-carry and organized retail formats. This is the 2nd Bharti Walmart Training Centre launched in Maharashtra within past 1 month.

The centre was inaugurated by Shri Rajesh Tope, Hon’ble Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Govt. of Maharashtra, in presence of Mr Pankaj Madan, Executive Vice President & CFO, Bharti Walmart; Mr Chandrakant Khaire, MP; Mr Sanjay Shirsat, MLA and Mrs Anita Ghodele, Mayor, Aurangabad were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the launch, Pankaj Madan, Executive Vice President & CFO, Bharti Walmart said, “We are happy to launch our second training centre in Maharashtra in partnership with the progressive government of Maharashtra. Maharashtra is an important state for Bharti Walmart and this facility underscores our intent to serve the local community better. Through the Bharti Walmart Training Centres we will provide the youth and people of Maharashtra with skills to equip them for employment opportunities. We firmly believe that this training centre, which provides free-of-cost training, will give the unemployable youth skill sets that will help them create sustainable careers in the retail sector.”

The training curriculum is based on Walmart’s global best practices and will be implemented through Centum Learning, who will run the Centre. This will help students take advantage of Walmart’s global knowledge and expertise in retail business. Successful candidates will be certified by Bharti Walmart, which will help certified students find employment. The Centre offers short-term vocational certification courses that equip them to become Floor and Sales Assistants or Supervisors. Over 10,800 students have been certified and over 4,000 have been placed in several companies.

Recently, the 1st Bharti Walmart Training Centre (BWTC) in Maharashtra was launched at Jalna. Currently 4 BWTC in PPP are present in: Amritsar (Punjab Govt.), Delhi (Delhi Govt.), Bangalore (Karnataka Govt.), Jalna (Maharashtra Govt.) and 3 training centres at our Best Price Modern Wholesale stores in Zirakpur, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.
