Associate Volunteering
As a responsible corporate citizen, we strive to improve the quality of life for Associates, Customers and Communities through financial contributions, in-kind donations and volunteerism. In this regard, Bharti Walmart has initiated an associate volunteering program at store level named ‘Store of the Community’ (SOTC).
Key objective of this program is to support the company’s mission to engage associates with the community through financial contributions and volunteerism. Under the ‘Store of the Community’ program, one critical theme has been allocated to each quarter and the CSR activities are planned as part of these themes:
- Q1: Health (Blood Donation Camp- Health check up)
- Q2: Environment (Cleaning-Greening)
- Q3: Community Development (Clothes donation Drive)
- Q4: Education (School volunteering)
Nearly 1500 units of bloods have been donated and more than 1000 people benefited from health camps conducted across Stores. Nearly 400 associates have volunteered in the cleaning and greening activity and nearly 1000 tree saplings were planted or donated during 2011. More than 3200 kilograms of garbage/debris were removed by the associates in their local community areas.
During 2011, Bharti Walmart in association with an NGO, Goonj, organized a clothes collection drive as part of the 'Cloth for Work' campaign and collected nearly 1,000 kgs of clothes comprising almost 5,000 clothes for the needy. This event saw a participation of more than 1,000 customers. Under the initiative, clothes collected and donated were used to motivate the deprived communities to improve and develop their surroundings such as repair their own roads, dig wells, clean their villages etc.
As part of our last quarterly theme education, Bharti Walmart launched the Stars of Joy activity during which customers bought stars and put them up on the Christmas tree placed inside the stores. The donation amount raised during the event was utilized towards the education of underprivileged girl children. The event saw enthusiastic participation of more than 4000 customers across the Best Price Modern Wholesale stores.
