BHARTI WALMART TRAINING CENTRES

The retail sector in India faces the problem of not having a reliable channel / source for hiring store staff. The trained manpower is prone to a high rate of attrition leading to increased expenditure on training and development. There were no national level initiatives which addressed this issue.

Bharti Walmart has partnered with State Governments and HOPE Foundation to address this.

Bharti Walmart has set up Bharti Walmart Training Centres with the aim of giving fee-of-cost retail training, to enable underprivileged youth to get sustainable employment. Bharti Walmart currently has opened 18 Bharti Walmart Training Centres. Six centres are in Public Private Partnerships (PPP) with the respective state Governments, eight operate in Best Price Modern Wholesale stores and 4 centres are set up in collaboration with Hope Foundation.

To date, over 16,000 students have been certified and more than 5,400 have been placed in jobs with various prestigious organizations including in Bharti Walmart’s Best Price Modern Wholesale and Bharti Retail’s easyday and easyday Market stores. Women are integral part of our training program as we educate to prepare them for their first Job and career in retail. More than 36% of the students that are certified from the centres are women.

The trained manpower from the Bharti Walmart Training Centres, apart from fulfilling the manpower requirements of Bharti Walmart, also enhances employability skills of the semi-urban and rural youth who would find employment in sectors like Retail, Sales, Hospitality, and Housekeeping etc.

Bharti Walmart Training Centre in Public Private Partnership with the Government 

Bharti Walmart has launched six training centres in Public Private Partnerships (PPP) with State Governments at Amritsar, Delhi, Bangalore, Jalna, Aurangabad and Hyderabad.

1. The 1st skill training centre was launched in Amritsar, Punjab, and was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Mr. Prakash Singh Badal in December 2008.
2. The 2nd was launched on 22nd July 2010 at Pusa, New Delhi and was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Mrs. Sheila Dikshit.
3. The 3rd training centre launched on 1st March 2011 in Bangalore was inaugurated by Dr. V S Acharya, Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education, and Mr. B.N. Bacche Gowda, Hon’ble Minister for Labour, Govt. of Karnataka.
4. The 4th and 5th centre launched in Jalna and Aurangabad, Maharashtra, was inaugurated by Mr. Rajesh Tope, Hon’ble Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Govt. of Maharashtra on 27th April 2012 and on 28th May 2012.
5. The 6th Centre was inaugurated in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, on 05 October 2012. The centre was inaugurated by Prof K C Reddy, Chairman, REEMAP.

Bharti Walmart Training Centres in Best Price Stores 

Currently eight Bharti Walmart Training Centres have been opened inside the Best Price Modern Wholesale stores in Zirakpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Meerut, Jammu, Indore and Raipur to enhance the penetration of this concept to smaller cities. These centres provide training to underprivileged youth and equip them with requisite skills sets. The centres are located within Best Price Modern Wholesale stores and aims to create a pool of modern retailing professionals by training 40 students per month.

Bharti Walmart Training Centres in collaboration with HOPE Foundation  

Four centres have been set up in collaboration between Bharti Walmart and Hope Foundation in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. HOPE Foundation, an independent affiliate of HOPE Worldwide, an international charity that provides non-sectarian assistance to millions of needy people in over 80 nations. The aim of these centres is to create a retail ready work force to bridge the existing skill gap in the industry.

100% Free Scholarships 

Bharti Walmart Training Centres offer short-term vocational certification courses that equip candidates to become Floor and Sales Assistants or Supervisors through a special curriculum developed by Walmart, along with Centum Learning Systems, who manage and run the centre. The training centres draw on Walmart’s foundation of knowledge and deep expertise and have developed a specialized curriculum for its courses.

Bharti Walmart Training Centres train approximately 125 candidates per centre, each month. Certification for floor assistants and sales assistant is a two week half-day programs with an additional week-long program for supervisors. Those opting for front-end retail jobs are required to attend a week-long program. All enrolled candidates are awarded 100% scholarships. Certification (by Bharti Walmart) is based on written evaluations conducted at the end of the training program.
